Month O' Monsters IV: Lake Creeper

Residents of the lake area tell rumors of a strange creature dwelling in the blackest, deepest depths of the water. It reportedly only surfaces a few nights a year (usually on a full moon) - driven by an insatiable desire to touch human flesh. Multiple campers have reported being awoken in the middle of the night by the feeling of a soft, wet hand slowly caressing their arm or leg- followed by a loud splash as the fiend quickly retreats into the inky water. Whether the creature's intentions are purely driven by curiosity or something much darker... none can say for sure, as its ultimate goal has not yet become clear.

Month O' Monsters Day #9: The Pale Orc

"He began...by beheading the king."

Okay so let's be honest: pretty much everyone hated Azog's role in The Hobbit film, and I can totally understand why. His character is only briefly mentioned in the book (he's actually supposed to be dead long before Bilbo's quest), and his character was a pretty last minute addition to the film which resulted in some inconsistent CGI.

BUT. For some reason, I really enjoyed him. It was fun to have an orc in the film that was actually intimidating instead of just waiting around to get speared/decapitated/etc. The design of his character was really unique as well: I loved the ritual scars and wicked prosthetic arm. The way he carried himself with this sense of barely contained rage was very enjoyable in contrast to the usually-forgettable lesser orcs.

So whether or not you enjoyed Azog as much I did; I created a painting of him. Deal with it.

This is the culmination of probably 5 hours in photoshop CS6. Surprisingly enough, I didn't use a specific movie photo for this piece. I just kind of looked at a whole bunch of different photos and made this scene up. Hope you enjoy!

Month O' Monsters Day #1: Cyclops!

Month O' Monsters is finally here! It feels really good to be back posting artwork with my Jeb pals, especially when that artwork is monsters!

I don't really have a "theme" for my monsters this month, I am just drawing/painting whatever monster comes to mind. So this should definitely be interesting!

My first monster is a horrifying Cyclops! Hope you enjoy:

Alien!

Happy monday! Here's another recent painting project that I completed:

Alien Soldier!
I made this guy up as a way to practice my character design skills. He was a looooooot of fun, and I think it turned out quite nicely as a whole.

Turtle Time!

Hey everyone! It's time for an update with (gasp) original artwork by yours truly.

My goal for this year has been to slowly ween myself off of creating vector artwork, and move back towards more traditional (ie. "wacom tablet") methods. I've been really concentrating on improving my linework and colors. This was my first real crack at it:

This guy was so much fun that i'm considering doing a whole series of random forest creatures. If anyone has any suggestions on what sort of creature I should draw next, please let me know! I am totally open to input.
